All About Me

My name is Stacy Shellhorse, and I am excited to be starting my eleventh year teaching at WOISD. This will be my twenty-sixth year teaching. I have taught twenty-five years in public schools and one year in a private school. I have taught everything from 7th grade language arts and reading through senior English.  For nineteen of my twenty-five years of teaching, I have taught English II and Honors English II. I also taught eight years in Gladewater and six years in Spring Hill.

I was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, but I’ve lived in the Longview area since I was two.  I attended Pine Tree ISD through ninth grade.  We then moved to White Oak High School, where I was active in band and flags. I also played two years of softball and one year of golf. I graduated from WOHS in ’95.  I attended Kilgore College for one year and LeTourneau University for three years, where I was active in yearbook and Sigma Tau Delta (an International English Honor Society).  I graduated from LeTourneau with a B.A. in English.  I received my teaching certification in secondary English, grades 6-12. I am also certified in ESL, English as a Second Language. I also coach esports and sponsor NHS. In addition, I have coached UIL Literary Criticism for seven years, and will now be coaching UIL Ready Writing.

I did my student teaching at WOHS in 1998-99. My first teaching job was at Maranatha Christian High School in 1999.  I taught English I and IV, Yearbook, Speech and Drama, Computer, and Cheerleading. (Whew!) Luckily, I then moved on to Gladewater Middle School in 2000 teaching 8th grade language arts and reading, 8th grade Pre-AP language arts and reading, yearbook, and twirling for two years.

Thereafter, I moved to Gladewater High School where I taught everything from English I-IV and twirling for six years. I left Gladewater to become a children’s pastor in Lindale for a year, and then I transitioned back into teaching at Spring Hill.

For three years, I taught at White Oak Middle School teaching 7th grade language arts and reading and Pre-AP language arts and reading. I was in charge of student council. I miss teaching at the middle school, but I am glad to be back in a high schooI English classroom!!! That’s where my heart is!!! (Plus, I am even teaching in my own 10th grade English classroom (Mrs. Cappell’s room)!!! Talk about memories!!!)

I have been married for twenty-five years, and my husband, Scott, works as a video producer for the City of Longview. I have two children. My daughter, Gracie,  recently graduated from Kilgore College, and where she was the feature twirler for the Kilgore College band.  She is working on her pharmacy tech license. My son, Benjy, is a senior at White Oak High School,  and he is an avid gamer. He is on the esports team, and I will continue coaching esports this year!

My hobbies include reading, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. I also like to sell lesson plans on TeachersPayTeachers.com. (When I can, I like to binge-watch TV shows on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime!!!)

I am blessed to teach at my Alma Mater (Class of ’95)!  (Yes, I can still sing the school song! Can you?!) I can’t wait to meet each and every one of you.  I am looking forward to an awesome year!!! This past summer I went to Europe with a few of our students. I will post of few of the pictures. It was a memorable trip of a lifetime! We toured Italy, Switzerland, and Paris.
